Class Descriptions
To
benefit the most from the Village Dance Studio program we
suggest the following curriculum:
Younger Dancers
Creative Movement (Ages 3-4)
Pre-Ballet (Ages 4-5)

The Village Dance Studio Program
Eight Month Classes (September May)

Creative
Movement (Ages 3-4)
From a structured yet creative approach this class teaches dance
fundamentals to the beginning dancer focusing on balance, coordination
and agility.

Pre-Ballet
(Ages 4-5)
This class introduces basic ballet technique focusing on development of
muscle awareness, discipline and coordination.

Ballet & Tap
(Ages 5-6)
The basic techniques of ballet and tap are developed in this class
focusing on alignment, rhythm and locomotor movements.

Dance Medley
(Ages 6-8)
Styles of Jazz, tap, modern and dance improvisation are incorporated
into this upbeat class. The focus is on developing alignment, technique
and rhythmic awareness.

Classical Ballet
Beginner, I, II & III
(Ages 8-17)
This class is designed to educate students in the discipline of
Classical Ballet Technique. This is a highly structured and technical
class. Students may advance with the approval of the instructor.

Jazz & Tap I,
II, III, IV, V (Ages 7-17)
This class focuses on dance technique utilizing both the classical style
and also the more contemporary street styles of jazz dance. The student
will also focus on learning basic tap techniques including classical and
rhythm styles. Levels II and above may advance with the approval of the
instructor. Levels III and up are offered as Jazz classes only.

Jazz V+
(high school)
This intense class focuses on dance technique utilizing both the
classical style and also the more contemporary street styles of jazz
dance. All dancers in this class must be enrolled in the Ballet III
class.

Advanced
Dancer’s Program
(high school)
Dancers are selected by the instructor from the Ballet III and Jazz V+
class. Dancers study classical ballet, jazz and dance conditioning in
addition to dance workshops.

Dance
Conditioning (Ages Teen- Adult)
This intense movement class uses dance to condition and tone the body.
The focus is to enhance one’s technical skills by increasing strength
and endurance.

Modern I & II
(ages 12-18)
This is a modern dance class designed to enhance a dancer’s technical
skills, strength and coordination.

Pointe
(Ages 13-17)
This classical ballet class is designed for the serious dancer.
Students must be enrolled in the Classical Ballet II or higher and
must be recommended by the instructor.

Advanced & Intermediate Tap (Ages 12-17)
This class utilizes both classical and rhythmic styles of tap
dance with a strong focus on technique.
The Village
Performing Company
(Ages 8-18)
Dancers are selected by audition. Dancers
advance based on
age and ability.
PC1
(3rd-5th grade)
Dancers must take one-hour technique class in addition to company class.
PC2
(5th-6th grade)
Dancers must take one-hour technique class either jazz or ballet in
addition to the company class.
PC3 (6th –8th grade)
Dancers must take ballet and a second technique class in either
jazz/tap, jazz or modern in addition to the company class. Dance
Conditioning is also highly recommended.
PC4 (high school)
Dancers must take Ballet III and Jazz V+ in addition to the company
class. Dance Conditioning is also required for one semester.
Senior Company (high school)
Dancers must be enrolled in the Advanced Dancers Program
in addition to the company class.

Short-Term Dance Classes
Short-term classes are offered in 8-10 week sessions in the Spring and
Fall. They are also part of our Create-A-Studio Program. Please call
for information.

Ms. Suzanne’s
Storytime (ages 3-5)
Jump into the pages of a favorite book and join Ms. Suzanne and explore
the story through movement.

Ballet
Stories (Ages 5-7)
This beginning ballet class introduces basic ballet technique with a
focus on class ballet stories.

Dance
Conditioning (Ages Teen- Adult)
This intense movement class uses dance to condition and tone the body.
The focus is to enhance one’s technical skills by increasing strength
and endurance.

Ballet Stretch
(adult)
This beginning ballet class will incorporate barre and floor work to
enhance your strength and flexibility.

Extreme Levels
(13 and up)
Instructor Rob Petres will teach dancers to soar in their jumps and
glide through their rolls. This intensive class will build strength and
agility while enhancing the dancers technical abilities.

Pilates Mat with
Pam England (adult)
Learn the true form of Pilates from Instructor and Trainer, Pam England
of The Pilates Fitness Studio. Stregthen your core muscles and lengthen
your body while finding balance and perfecting your alignment.

Classes in Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet and Dance

The Artists
Studio Program
Colorful Kids
(Ages 5-7)
Your child will discover color through various mediums of art.
Beginning painting, chalk drawing are two examples of the skills that
will be taught. Each student will choose their favorite medium for
their final project.
Art in Motion
(Ages 8-10)
Students will learn how to capture movement through art. Learn how to
draw the human body and create your vision of movement-- dance, sports,
walkingwith chalk, paint or pencil.
Art Abroad
(Ages 10-14)
Beginning painting with an emphasis on traveling through Europe.
Set Design
(Ages 14 to Adult)
Paint and create scenery, props and backdrops for the Village Dance
Studio Performance.
Create-A-Studio Program
1.
Select a class description.
2.
Find classmates and make your own class list or sign up and wait
for a class to form. Each class must have a minimum of 8 students.
3.
Select an open time slot(s) for your class from the master
schedule or contact the studio for other possible times. These classes
will be one hour in length.
4.
Select a session length, start date and ending date.
5.
Register for your class.
